Is Your Hot Water Costing You More Than It Should?

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Typically hot water accounts for 25% of the average domestic energy bill, so it makes sense to make sure your hot water system is as efficicent as it can be and that you are not wasting heat and money.

See our Hot Water poster for more information. (Click on the image for a larger view.)

Home Energy Audit Toolkits

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Home Energy Audit Toolkits (HEAT kits) are now available to borrow from Kentish Council for free.

There are 4 HEAT kits - one purchased by KEENER as a result of funding from the Tasmanian Gorvernment's Earn Your Stars Micro-grant program and 3 purchased by Kentish Council.

As well as a number of very useful information cards and instructions on using the kit, inside the box you will also find:

  • Powermate - to measure the electricity used by various appliances.
  • Radiometer - to measure temperature of surfaces - i.e. an indicator of gaps in insulation, check fridge door seals, etc.
  • Thermometer - to check the temperature of water, fridges, freezers - are they set to the right temperature to do their job, and not too high/low that they are using too much electricity?
  • Stopwatch - used to work out the flow rate on your shower and taps.
  • Compass - what features of your house are oriented correctly for maximising use of sun in winter, reducing the effect in summer.

There may be a waiting list, but put your name down to reserve one - they can help you save money on your energy bills. Contact Council on 6491 2500.
